Social Media – Social Media: What It Means for Business Presentation

Strategy
A regional restaurant franchise identified social media as an area they wanted to learn more about and incorporate into their marketing mix. A presentation was requested for their annual convention.

A quick survey asking the thirty or so franchise owners on what social networks did they participate in and what ones did their businesses. Only a handful raised their hands for both questions.

Tactics
The goal was to explain and provide the franchise owners with an understanding of social media, potential social networking platforms. A 90-minute talk was built around it focusing on Facebook Pages and location-based social networks.

The presentation was geared about one stakeholder group, the franchise owners, and covered:
Definition of social media
Different types of social networking platforms
Business-specific social networking platform recommendations.
Tools to handle when social media becomes unsocial

Results
Throughout the talk, lots of questions were asked and open spirited discussions. At the end of talk, they were asked if they were going to move forward in engaging customer via social media. Quite a few hands went up and a couple raised their hands telling that during the talk they signed-up for Foursquare and had already started seeing benefits.
